It’s been a rather blah summer. Not too hot. And lately, the last couple of days, it has actually felt a bit like Fall. What’s with that? Anyway, I just got this blog up and running, and my wife is at the grocery store. She knows nothing of this blog yet. I called her and asked her to pick up some limes, pineapple and mint sprigs. She is wondering what the hell is going on.
A nice tropical drink for Fall weather is called Admiral Schley Punch. It’s a bourbon drink, and as bourbon is my go to drink, I thought I would start with something we both certainly will enjoy.
Here is how I made it:
- 1 lime
- 1 ounce rum (I used Bacardi Gold)
- 1 ounce bourbon (I used Elmer T. Lee)
- 1 teaspoon bar sugar or simple syrup
- Garnish: mint sprig and pineapple wedge
Peel lime with a vegetable peeler and add green zest to cocktail shaker. Juice lime and add all of the juice (about 1/2 ounce) to cocktail shaker along with rum, bourbon, and sugar. Fill shaker with ice and shake 15 seconds until well chilled. Pour mixture along with ice into goblet without straining. Garnish with mint sprig and pineapple.
My wife’s review: Tasty and easy to drink. A good Summer/Fall cocktail. Cheery and colorful. Definitely would have it again, but not a “go-to” drink.
